Our “M.O.” at Authentic Copper Canyon
People seem to love our trips. Most who travel with us are more “travelers” than “tourists” and they like the focus on local connections, relaxed schedule, the quality of our guides, and the comfort and hospitality of our lodges.
How do we do it? Here is an overview of our M.O. for Copper Canyon train trips:
Independence and Flexibility
I don’t have a room of suits telling me what to do… we don’t got no stinking suits!!! Your rich cultural experience in Copper Canyon is the result of my team and I combing the streets and back paths of Copper Canyon for the best and richest in hotels, eateries, views, and all that makes the Sierra Madre vibe so very special.
There are no generic “Package” itineraries and they often flex on the fly to adjust to the interests of the group or some local event that pops up- a fiesta, or a rodeo, or a new local friend or whatever.
Our Agenda
Wonder. See it. Get immersed in it. Linger long enough to be a life memory.
This place is so routinely spectacular that it is a must to not simply visit or tour it. You must experience it deeply.
Gratification
My team and I love this place- there is so much more in Copper Canyon than the constant reward of expansive views. Moderation with your camera has its place, but not in this place. But be sure to put down your camera at times and let the graciousness of old Mexico- something rarely experienced in the award winning resorts of Mexico- let this warmth soak in.
Hospitality
It is the nature of the Northern Mexico people to embrace you with the warmest of welcomes. “Mi casa es tu casa” is a way of life. Our guests begin a trip ready to see the spectacle of the canyons and the wonder of the Copper Canyon train. They end a trip however saying that it is the warmth and friendship (amistad) of the Chihuahuans that is their lasting memory.
Raving fans
I don’t make a big deal of trying to collect nameless, faceless Facebook fans. Perhaps it would help our online position.
Call me old fashioned, but the kind of fan I like is the one that has a tear or two as we walk back across “la fronterra” at St Teresa after a superlative experience in Copper Canyon. I like a guest who gushes words of wonder as we reflect over a drink in El Fuerte after 10 days riding CHEPE through paradise.
Call me weird but I like fans who have a deep connection to our friends in Mexico and then bend over backwards contributing generously when we go into action to make a difference in the Sierras. Recently our people- many of whom still have Copper on their bucket list- shelled out over $3,000 in a matter of a week to buy much needed corn, beans, and salt for needy Raramuri people.
Now our NFP “Friends of Copper Canyon” regularly supplies remote villages with much needed laying hens–eggs are great food!
The best
We have from the get go made it our target to be the very best in providing culturally honest and rich experiences for people in Copper Canyon. The vision is not simply that 1000’s see the place or get to ride the Copper Canyon train. The vision is that each one experiences it so richly that they return with a life connection to this place and its gracious people- our close neighbors in Chihuahua and Sinaloa.
One way to keep trips the best is to keep groups small. If you have 2 people, call Dave today–we will put together a great trip just for you!
