Christmas in Copper Canyon

A Christmas Pinata on the Square in Cerocahui

There is nothing like the Christmas season in the Sierra Madres. It can be a bit nippy up high, but usually it warms during the day. Every little town has its celebrations and there are church services, songs, and decor.

The Christmas celebration for the Tarahumaras always involves a big brew of Tesguino. We were in Cusarare on Dec 20th and the barrels were boiling in the middle of town. A female crew was up all night keeping it hot and the target for completion wasNoche Buena– Christmas eve.

The areas in the mountains had a skiff of snow and all was quiet aboveUrique.
