Classic 7-day Copper Canyon Train Trips in 2010

All of our trips are culturally rich, small group trips, led by experienced bi-lingual guides…and they all include an incredible train experience in Copper Canyon.

Here is a sample itinerary for your classic 7 day experience: (note that itineraries are not guaranteed, vary from summer to winter, and often flex to maximize the experience for our guests):

Day 1-Wed: Depart El Paso by noon and travel down through the spacious Chihuahuan desert (including a stop for some delicious burritos- our first meal in Mexico) to spend the evening in the charming and historic San Felipe el Real hotel in Chihuahua City.

Day 2- Thurs: Board the train to climb up through the Mennonite country into the Sierra Madres to the tiny town of Cerocahui. On the way we get our first eye-popping view of Copper Canyon at Devisadero- wow! We are welcomed by our hosts and enjoy a relaxing evening. “Cero” features a quiet plaza,17th century mission church, a short hike to a waterfall, and lots of friendly people.

Day 3- Fri: Lots of time to explore- we visit a Tarahumara home, take in the spectacular Copper Canyon vistas at Gallego and return to the train in time for the scenic ride through the heart of Copper with more tunnels and bridges than you can count. We arrive in time for dinner in El Fuerte and check into the pleasant and colonial Real de Carapoa on the square.

Day 4- Sat: We have the whole day to enjoy this wonderful town- a walk through the market, a float down the river to bird watch and take in petroglyphs, and more.  Expect local crafts, great seafood (including several kinds of ceviche), palm-lined walkways, etc. Then dinner in the home of our friend Evangelina- this is real Mexico.

Day 5- Sun: Breakfast on the patio then off to the train to travel back through the heart of Copper to the little hamlet of Areponapuchi. We make our way to Cabanas Diaz- a little ranchito-like apple farm with the best food you can imagine. Dinner and perhaps a walk to the breathtaking vista points to view Copper at sunset.

Day 6- Mon: Plenty of time to explore the area more after a hearty breakfast at Diaz. Take in a Tarahumara cave, the new gondola, the breathtaking Piedra Volada, etc. We then make our way back to Chihuahua City, perhaps taking in some of the great food in the Mennonite area. Back to the comfortable San Felipe el Real for a relaxing evening in the historic district of Chihuahua City.

Day- Tues: Breakfast and then we tour our way back up to El Paso…the end of an enchanting and enriching immersion into Copper Canyon!

Pricing: Your 7 day trip is just $1,299 including all transport from and returning to El Paso, hotels, guides, side trips, etc except for 4 meals.

Schedule:Each month has it’s enchantment in the Sierra Madres and we will flex the itinerary to maximize your small group experience.

I didn’t see a place on your site to navigate as to how much your trips costs? Or as to the different packages you offer?
