There is so much info out there on the Copper Canyon train and the Sierra Madres of Chihuahua. Much of it relates to packaged tours and is motivated by profit or just the way things have always been done.
I have traveled that train through Copper Canyon some 70-80 times and I go there often. When I am there I travel with my guides, visit hotels and cafes, return to spots that are included on our Copper Canyon trips, etc. So I know the place. That way I can help you plan a trip that works–and my guides then make it happen when you arrive.
What I have assembled on this site will include Copper Canyon info that is:
- not commercial–like vendors that are hawking there own stuff and viewpoint- or worse yet, someone else’s!
- up to date– and yell at me if something gets stale. We are there in Copper Canyon all the time but we may miss something.
- focused on the “authentic” stuff in the canyons that we are known for.
- brief, fun and to the point.
- put together by insiders and each trip is led by local, English speaking guides who are the cream of the crop.
And…we offer trips that are:
- Fun, spontaneous, run by local experts–think having fun, not just a packaged tour
- Scheduled to help you get immersed in the place but relaxed enough to enjoy–think a drink with a view over the canyons or perhaps a walk to a indigenous Raramuri village
- Designed by someone (me) who has been on that train some 70 times or so.
- Affordable –yet we use great lodges –and they have to have private rooms with linens, good water, and delicious food!

Got Questions?
One common question people have is if this is a hiking/sleep on the ground trip. Answer: No. We stay each night in small cabanas or hotels, all of which are very clean and include hot water and linens. There is always the opportunity for a good walk, but ground transport is always available.
Chihuahua City Option
Most of our trips originate in Chihuahua and sometimes end in Baja. You can also start your trip flying to Los Mochis (LMM)
You can fly directly to Chihuahua City (CUU) to begin our trips. Direct flights from Dallas (American Airlines) and Houston (United Airlines) go daily to CUU.
Guests can return home from Cabo (SJD).
This gives us an extra day in Copper Canyon and smooths the trip as it eliminates the long drive in from El Paso. Call Dave today at 217.369.9897 for details.

Answer to the question everyone asks…
Yes the Mexico is safe. There have been zero incidents with tourists in the Copper Canyon area, Merida, Oaxaca or the other areas where we travel.
We stay far away from effected areas and have every confidence that your trip will be safe...and very enjoyable!

Friends of Copper Canyon
We are making a difference in the lives of people in Copper Canyon through this not for profit. Our focus is sustainable projects and education. One example is the Copper Canyon Chicken Project. This initiative supplies much needed young chicks to the depleted chicken coops of the Sierra Madre homes.
