Our new venture into the wonders of the state of Puebla (east of Mexico City 2 hours) gets rolling this fall with our maiden voyage. I have done a good amount of traveling in Puebla, researched it ruins and sites, experienced its people, and connected with some excellent and skilled local guides. Now we are ready for our first trip. Here are the details and keep in mind that there is time at the beginning or end for you to extend your trip in Mexico City (MEX).
Authentic Puebla Trip
From Dave Hensleigh
Authentic Mexico Travel
September 30 – October 7, 2013
My team and I built the premier culturally rich small group trips to Copper Canyon, Chihuahua, and now we are bringing the same approach to the lovely state of Puebla. Come along with us to experience the unique foods, the intricate arts, the indigenous customs and the verdant landscape of Puebla. I have spent extensive time researching and traveling this state and this is our first journey. So the itinerary will be loose and a bit of a serendipitous discovery type of journey. Join me for the trip of a lifetime!
Mon Sept 30- Fly into Mexico City (MEX) and travel to Puebla City for the evening. Quick tour of the center city and relax over dinner. (D)
Tues Oct 1- All day to explore this enchanting urban area. The vast art market, the central cathedral and historic buildings , and even time to see the ruins at nearby Cholula. (B)
Wed Oct 2 – Breakfast then we head north east and drop into the intriguing ruins at Cantona. Then to the little village of Tlatlauquitepec and to our mountainside lodge for the evening. (B,L,D)
Th Oct 3 – Tlatlau is a “Magic Town” and is at its best on market day – and that is today. Stroll and shop as long as you want, or enjoy a drink on the quiet plaza, or perhaps a hike or horse ride for those who are interested. Dinner of barbeque at one of the best places in town. (D)
Fri Oct 4 – Take a last walk around this village then off through the jungle toward another “Magic Town” (the first in Mexico), Cuetzalan. Along the way we visit a coffee plantation. We stay near the restored plaza. (B,L)
Sat Oct 5 – We have so many options today. There are indigenous villages close by. Also the quiet ruins at Yohualichan, hikes to waterfalls, botanical preserves and butterfly gardens. There are two ancient church buildings, and of course you must explore the winding almost European cobblestone streets that make Cuetzalan so special. (D)
Sun Oct 6 – There is time to relax over breakfast this morning, and in the plaza in front of the main church the flying “voladores” will be seen at noon. Then we are off toward Mexico City for an evening in the city center. There are eateries, parks, historical buildings, and shopping. (B, D)
Mon Oct 7 – We catch our flights today…or you can extend as many days in Mexico City as you wish. We expect to stay at the Hotel Casa Blanca in the center area.
Registration – I am limiting this trip to 11 people. You will make your own flight arrangements to and from Mexico City.
Price is $1,695 per person ($300 single supp.) and this includes all transport from and back to Mexico City, all meals as noted, guides, hotels, and entrance to the ruins etc noted. Does not include alcohol, special side trips or special guides at your discretion, visa, and gratuities.
